As a schoolboy, he organized a food bank for the elderly and disabled at the Red Cross. As a student, he was on the board of Step by Step Münster e.V., an association that supports international humanitarian projects (e.g. in Uganda, Nepal, Haiti, Sudan, etc.), and today he is regularly active on the electoral board of his hometown.

He has sponsored children in SOS Children’s Villages for over 10 years. He is also a member of Step by Step e.V. and supports the rescue of refugees by SOS Mediterranee and the work of Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières.

He is also a member of the Kuratorium Kulturelles Frankfurt and loves going to the theater.

Söbbing regularly takes part in half-marathon events, rides mountain bikes, plays golf (terribly) and on vacations he faces the challenges of long-distance trails, such as the Camino de Santiago.
